Box Office Battle: “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” wins weekend with $56.5M

20th Century and Disney (DIS) “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” won the weekend at the box office with a $56.5M debut. Overseas, the movie earned an estimated $72.5M for a global cume of $129M. Despite glowing reviews by critics, “Kingdom of the Plant of the Apes” received only a B CinemaScore from audiences.

BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “The Fall Guy” placed number two with $13.7M for a 10-day cume of $49.7M. Behind it was MGM Amazon Studios’ (AMZN) “Challengers” with an estimated $4.7M for a domestic tally of $38.4M. Sony (SONY) and Screen Gem’s “Tarot” placed number four with $3.5M in its second outing for a 10-day domestic cume of about $12M. Rounding out the top five, Warner Bros. (WBD) and Legendary’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” grossed an estimated $2.5M as it crossed the $190M mark domestically.
